Immigrant Heritage Month and New “I Stand With Immigrants” Campaign Bring Pop-up Stores and Events to Cities Across the Nation, Starting in New York City
NEW YORK, NY – June is Immigrant Heritage Month (IHM), and “I Am An Immigrant” is hosting pop-up stores and a series of events starting in New York City to celebrate and lift up the critical contributions of immigrants in our communities. The events will kick off on the morning of Friday, June 2, and run through Saturday, June 3, at 393 Broadway, a storefront in Tribeca. “I Am An Immigrant” merchandise will also be available for purchase.
Planned IHM events include a celebrity photo shoot, film screenings, food tastings, staged readings, children’s art projects, community service events and a “know your rights” training for immigrants and their family members, colleagues and friends. All events are free and open to the public. A full schedule of programming is available here on the newly redesigned website IAmAnImmigrant.com.
Also new to Immigrant Heritage Month this year is the “I Stand With Immigrants” campaign, an initiative that provides avenues for allies to stand in solidarity with their immigrant employees, colleagues, constituents, neighbors, and friends. Allies are encouraged to share their family’s immigrant stories online using the hashtag #IStandWithImmigrants.
Immigrant Heritage Month, which kicks off annually on June 1, is a nationwide effort to gather and share the inspirational stories of immigrants and immigrant heritage in America. Last year, hundreds of artists, entertainers, influencers, elected officials representing all 50 states, and more than 250 companies and nonprofit partners, came together to celebrate IHM 2016 - leading to over 1 billion impressions on social media in June alone, and more than 70 IHM-linked events held around the country.
