New York, NY – FWD.us and The New York Department of State’s Office of New Americans are joining forces to honor immigrant artists for their contributions to New York immigrant heritage and culture during Immigrant Heritage Month.
The effort is part of a nationwide celebration of Immigrant Heritage Month (#IHM2016), an initiative to gather and share inspirational stories of American immigrants, past and present. The event will showcase immigrant artists’ visual art throughout June in the waiting area of the New York State Athletic Commission.
Artists, Eleen Lin, Julio Austria, Sophia Chizuco, and Suyeon Na, from the New York Foundation for the Arts will present original works focusing on the immigrant experience, including the journey of refugees and resettlement in American communities.

PARTICIPANT BACKGROUND –
Jorge Montalvo is the Deputy Secretary of State for the New York Department of State and represents the Office of New Americans.
The New York Foundation for the Arts Immigration Artist Program selects artists from thousands of applicants to be part of this prestigious mentor-mentee program.
Tetsu Hiro, co-founder of Cypher League Media, is an immigrant entrepreneur and ambassador for FWD.us. He is one of the lead organizers for the event.
