Here Where We Are
hpgrp GALLERY NEW YORK and GALLERY KOGURE are pleased to present Here Where We Are, a show of work by Alumni from the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program curated by Sophia Chizuco. Please join us for a closing reception with the artists Saturday, July 2nd from 4 to 6pm. The exhibition will be opened until Saturday, July 2nd with regular gallery hours Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00am-6:00pm. Here Where We Are is an exhibition that examines the concepts of “place” and “belonging” from immigrant perspectives. This exhibition brings together the work of six international artists currently working in New York; Liene Bosquê (Brazil), Sophia Chizuco (Japan), Isabelle Garbani (France), Liesl Pfeffer (Australia), Claudia Sohrens (Germany), and Julio Austria (Philippines). While ranging in mediums from installation, to print, to photography and paintings, all six artists share the bonds of having met in New York while creating work in keeping with their cultural heritage. These varied works create the Here while the physical exhibition serves as the Where We Are. ■About The Curator Sophia Chizuco is a multidisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, New York. Born in Japan, she earned her B.A. in Art and Education from Tokyo Gakugei University. In 2000 she moved to New York to study abstract paintings with Larry Poons at the Art Students League of New York and earned a certificate in painting for her studies. She has since shown throughout New York and internationally. In 2013, 2014 and 2016, Chizuco served as a mentor in NYFA’s Immigrant Artist Mentoring Program. This exhibition is supported by New York Foundation for the Arts. >>https://www.nyfa.org/ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Here Where We Are June 10th - July 2nd, 2016 Opening Reception-June 10th, Friday, 6pm-8pm Curated by Sophia Chizuco Featuring work by Liene Bosquê, Sophia Chizuco, Isabelle Garbani, Liesl Pfeffer, Claudia Sohrens and Julio Austria (GALLERY KOGURE)
